30th May 2016
18:00 - 20:30
This month, the Masterclass is pleased to welcome Award Winning Director Aldo Iuliano to Oxford, along with David di Donatello Award Winning Film Editor Marco Spoletini, to discuss their film about migration, Penalty.
Do not miss the chance to be part of this important international event discussing the place of migration in society and contemporary European cinema.
"Penalty tells the story of a group of guys playing football in the middle of nowhere. At stake is much more than a simple victory" (Iuliano, A. 2016)
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Penalty is a short that combines three elements: migration, football, and the language of film. As a project it aims to stimulate reflection on human nature, transcending nationality or group membership. The question of migration is more relevant than ever at a time when the old equilibrium of Western societies seems tenuous in the face of challenges posed by the future.
Football, an international sport whose gestalt goes beyond consideration of the physical activity or the players’ communities of origin, serves the film as an invaluable social metaphor to raise awareness of issues surrounding migration.
